Boston Getaway..

Life get's so busy..
FINALLY getting around (catching up enough) to writing this post and documenting one of our favorite vacation getaways yet.

B O S T O N

It was incredibly gorgeous, amazing, sweet, romantic, lovely, relaxing, inspiring, and perfect.

Definitely on our favorite city list!

We had many things schedule - not as intense as DC - but we definitely had a few restaurants picked out (thank you yelp and recommendations lovely friends) and we wanted to do the Freedom Trail of course.. but somehow we found ourselves in front of a gorgeous building or park just sitting and talking and being content with just enjoying the interesting city and maybe not rushing to the next thing. Boston is so different than NYC. I loved it. It is more laid back and chill. Charming and sweet. We didn't get everything checked off our list but we sure enjoyed ourselves. The weather was INSANELY perfect. Mid-high seventies all day. It was pure bliss. We had such a great time.

And here come the pictures. Well the half that didn't get eaten up into limbo between my camera card and my computer.. yes, about 60 pictures got ruined in the process of transferring. I was not happy at all.. basically the entire Freedom Trail (the part we did walk - a whole days worth) is completely gone. SO.. you'll just have to google all the sites on it since I sadly don't have documentation.

And so it begins - we boarded the Greyhound Bus from Port Authority on Friday morning.

First stop on our list "The Best Fish n' Chips" at the Squealing Pig. They did not disappoint. They were incredibly amazing! It was a lovely neighborhood to start our Boston trip in. Cute homes with lots of ivy. Stone/brick sidewalks. So charming.

Next stop, J.P. Licks. Heaven.

My friend recommended we go to this ice cream place and since I LOVE ice cream we definitely had to try it out. It was amazing. I got the salted caramel. Best decision ever. Taylor got the mint chocolate chip - also amazing! Highly recommend.

^^yes that is salted caramel gushing all over the ice cream^^

We walked around the city to Fenway Park! We were hoping to get a tour but it was game night so they ended early and we didn't get there in time. We would have seen a game but we had planned to see a Yankee's game the next weekend (this past weekend) so we saw the stadium and made our way to Newbury Street!

We did a bit of window shopping (and maybe a little actual shopping) on Newbury Street before ending up at Zocalo's for a yummy Mexican dinner. I recommend it! The guacamole (we ordered it hot!) was amazing and so were our meals - I got chicken tostada's and Taylor got enchilada's with mole sauce. THEN for dessert we got yummy churro's with cinnamon ice cream. Delicious.

We stayed at my cousins Clark's house (so thankful to him for letting us stay!) and on Saturday morning he took us into the city through the scenic route. We passed The Wayside Inn Grist Mill  on our way to Concord to see the Minute Man statue (shot heard 'round the world) and then stopped by the Boston Temple. He was such a good tour guide and we enjoyed seeing a bit of the historic city outside of Boston.

We were dropped off at the Public Gardens and stayed there for about an hour just wandering and admiring the gorgeous scenery. The ponds and the trees and flowers - it was beautiful and so refreshing. We finally made our way to Boston Common, the start of the Freedom Trail.

Cue lost photos.

We stopped and took pictures at:
Boston Common
Massachusetts State House
Park Street Church
Granary Burying Ground

*Lunch at the Omni Parker Hotel*
We had AMAZING clam chowder (recommended by my cousin) and the real first ever Boston cream pie (it originated here) - it was all fantastic! I am SO sad I don't have photos..

King's Chapel
King's Chapel Burying Ground
Benjamin Franklin Statue & Boston Latin School
Old Corner Book Store
Old South Meeting House
Old State House
Site of Boston Massacre

Cue photos.
Next stop Faneuil Hall

^^following the red brick road - the Freedom Trail^^

On the way to the Paul Revere House we got a cannoli in the North End. Mike's Pastry is the famous shop but we were told to hit up Modern Pastry. Still a hefty line but well worth it. This cannoli was DIVINE! I now crave cannoli's everyday.

^^I'm pretty sure we sat at this bench for over an hour. It was so peaceful and romantic and lovely we just didn't want to leave. So we didn't. Not until it was getting dark and we were starving.^^

We hurried to the Old North Church and Copp's Hill Burying Ground before making our way back to some Italian restaurants for dinner. We stopped in a restaurant that had rooftop seating - yes please! But sadly the food was only good, not great. But my view was pretty perfect!

On Sunday we started off our day at Harvard. It is such a gorgeous campus. Again we found ourselves just sitting under the trees for a really long time just talking and taking in the beautiful weather and scenery. The red brick and pretty landscaping was just perfect for a Sunday morning. We headed across the lake to the business school building. Such a lovely building. We fell in love with Harvard campus. I think we spent around 4 hours just hanging out on the grounds.

^^the view from our relaxation spot under the trees^^

*sorry for the Harvard picture overload - they were just all so pretty, I bet now you are glad I lost half of my photos otherwise this post would have been much much longer - ha*

We had plans to ride the Ferry, visit the rest of the freedom trail (Bunker Hill Monument and USS Constitution) and eat at Legal Seafoods... but ended up at Quincy Market again to try some yummy treats and visit the shoreline. We basically spent all day just wandering at our own pace enjoying beautiful Boston.

^^Mango Papaya smoothie from the Monkey Bar and some fresh watermelon^^

^^Mint Oreo and Fudge (heavenly) ice cream from Sprinkles celebrating three months of marriage^^

Eventually it was time to head back to our bus which is always an adventure. I guess that is what you get for $50 round trip. It was a long 4 hour bus ride but the time we spent together in Boston made it all worth it.

(Trip pointers - we used the subway (T) to get around when we weren't walking and we stored our suitcase on Friday and Sunday at Package Express at South Station which was a lifesaver!)

  1. Bree, How Fun! These pictures are great! So nice to have great weather too for your trip, makes all the difference. I love how you celebrated three months of marriage with ice cream! I think you and Taylor are really loving the East Coast. But we miss you!

  2. I am so excited you're going to all these places! The East Coast is the best (though I'm a bit biased, haha). Cannolis are pretty much my favorite food, besides ice cream of course. So eat an extra one for me next time! Love you!
