Spring

So... Fall is my favorite season. I love the first chill, the first leaves that fall, and I love the clothes. Tights, boots, chunky sweaters, layering-I love it all. I do have to say though that I am past sick of winter clothes and am happily enjoying the warmer weather. Not having to put tights on last Sunday was AMAZING, and breaking out my heels (not boots) and my colored pants makes me happy. I know come October I will be SO extremely happy for fall clothes again but for now, I'm happy with spring.

mommy's DAY

This weekend was wonderfully full of great food and lovely times. It started on Friday when my 4:00 class got canceled so I was home early. I took some time to relax and then I got free Tucanos with my madre and padre at the UVU basketball game (my dad is legit and we score sweet meals and seats at all things UVU) It was DELICIOUS and the game was really intense and good as well. My mom and I ended the night with a card game-baseball/(golf).

Saturday (mommy's birthday) I woke up at 7:50 and rushed to get to my accounting review that I thought started at 8......... I was freaking out until I remembered it actually started at 9. Awesome. BUT my mom and I got another game of baseball in and then I sat through my review for 4 hours. My mom and Bain picked me up for lunch at Guru's. AMAZING. Sweet potato fries and bread pudding to DIE FOR. YUM yum YUM. While my mom was out with Bainy at the Temple my dad and I planned a few surprises for the lovely lady. We set off to buy a nice pair of shoes that she mentioned liking in the Nordstrom catalog then we stopped at Zurchers for some party decor. We then made our way to Magleby's for the best chocolate cake in the universe and then to Day's for black licorice caramel which is divine. Dad and I cleaned up the kitchen and set up for mom's big surprise. When she entered we all sang happy birthday!

After, we watched the sad BYU game and then went to the Pizza Factory. It was so filling-I think I was still full from Guru's-but the salad bar was just like Brick Oven's (which is my favorite) and the pizza, pasta, and bread-sticks were heavenly. (It also helps that we had 2 gift cards so the balance was $1.47 (or something close to that) SWEET). We came home to cake and a game of nickle nickle. It was a lovely day.

Sunday dinner was held at Emily's apartment. She made Katie and me Chicken Parmesan and gnocchi. (Yes, she is amazing) and it was just that, AMAZING. GREAT company and GREAT food. We had some GREAT conversations over blond brownies, chocolate cinnamon raisin peanut butter brownies, hot chocolate with dark chocolate pieces, and mango heavenly deliciousness licorice (our NYC favorite that was found by Emily in Park City! -literally the best thing that's ever happened to Utah). It was such a fun weekend...

TOO bad I didn't take enough pictures and I didn't do any homework.

Hello Accounting test, New Testament test, Slavery book report, etc........ Hopefully this week flies by fast without me getting too stressed out. And hopefully the next 2 months fly by!

Oh I also rearranged my room which is always a nice change.AND I just want to say that Bain is a freaking baller, and that's was up...and just for fun. (Bain's new favorite video-it's great!)-Harvard Sailing Team.

Dressing the Part

Interviews... I hate them, but I love dressing for them!

Dressing the part can be hard to figure out, the risk of being over dressed or under dressed is also stressful. What is appropriate? Is this too flashy? How do I show my style and dress professionally? Should I wear heels? etc. etc. etc. These questions all flow through our heads and can cause anxiety.

A few tips I have chosen to follow are..
-Be comfortable and confident: If you like heels and feel confident in them, wear them, if not... don't pretend you do. I personally will take ANY excuse to wear heels since campus is not the ideal location for them and that is where I normally am.
-Dress above the part: It is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. I promise. (In all aspects of life-not just interviews)
-Coordinate with the job you are wanting: I was interviewing at a Bridal Store, so I was classy, sophisticated, and wore white with a little sparkle. When I interviewed at J.Crew I wore staple J.Crew pieces, not pieces that screamed "I'm wearing J.Crew!" For example I wore a clean color that looks best on me (a silk navy ruffled tee) with a simple gray cardigan and a dark denim pencil skirt with a gold necklace. Each item was J.Crew but (minus the silk tee) could have been found some other place. Also, research the company-if they have a dress code, follow it.
-BE YOU!: If you love sparkle, wear it. If you love jewelry, wear it. If you hate skirts-don't wear one. Skirts and pants are both appropriate for women and can be dressed up accordingly.
-Always bring a resume and if fashion related-your portfolio.
-It is okay to be fashionable!!
(I was taking an interview course at FIT and it truly amazed me what some people considered "professional dress" fyi-holes, leggings, over sized tees, chunky heels, are all fine for everyday wear but they are NOT professional. Be conscious and fashionable-not necessarily trendy-I say stick to wools, silks, and woven fabrics-they are crisp and professional. Stay away from jeans, cotton t-shirts, and knits as your main pieces.)

MIA

School/studying/homework/midterms=no time=no bueno

This weekend I went to Idaho with my daddy to visit Seth and Jenn! It was SO MUCH FUN! I've missed them. My dad and I had a fun time on our drive up, talking about politics/government/taxes etc. and singing to Tim McGraw (and others) while eating the BEST chocolate licorice EVER, milk duds, and dill sunflower seeds. Saturday we had breakfast (biscuits and gravy with eggs, sausage, hash browns, and strawberry french toast! Seth had 2 baseball games. It was cold! (I slept and studied in the car for part of the game when he wasn't playing) For dinner we had authentic Mexican which was AMAZING! Then we watched Killers, which was pretty good. Sunday Seth had 2 more games and then we drove home. We didn't take any pictures but we sure enjoyed ourselves.

I am assuming there won't be many posts this week... History midterm Wednesday, Accounting midterm Monday, New Testament midterm Thursday.... the list goes on and on.

In the meantime enjoy these lovely wedding pictures from my favorite blog-greenweddingshoes. Her dress/necklace is pure perfection along with his no socks and Sperry's! I love it all!
I miss fashion..... I miss spending all my time looking at inspirational pictures and creating/designing/sewing. I hope I find time to mix the two aspects of my life. Fashion and school. If not now, hopefully this summer. I need it back in my life...
