Our Divine Origins and Destiny

I am taking a SFL 100 Strengthening Marriage and Family - from one of the best professors on campus, Larry Nelson. It is more of a scientific take on Marriage as opposed to a religious take (which I took last semester - REL C 234 LDS Marriage and Family, from another great professor Brother Dorius.)

I read the first assigned chapter just barely and LOVED it. I have a feeling I'll be posting a lot about this class... it's very inspiring.

TOPIC: The Creation and Our Divine Origins and Destiny

"Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and as such, each has a divine nature and destiny (The Family: A Proclamation to the World) – TRUTHS from this statement: We were created by God; we were created in the image of God; we have heavenly parents; we are literally the offspring of God; our spirit creation includes identity as male or female; we have a divine destiny.

QUOTE: Man is the child of God, formed in the divine image and endowed with divine attributes, and even as the infant son of an earthly father and mother is capable in due time of becoming a man, so the undeveloped offspring of celestial parentage is capable, by experience through the ages and aeons, of evolving into a God. -Smith, Winder & Lund

QUOTE: As man now is, God once was; as God now is, man may be – Lorenzo Snow

QUOTE: The command be ye perfect is not idealistic gas. Nor is it a command to do the impossible. He is going to make us into creatures that can obey that command. He said (in the bible) that we were “gods” and He is going to make good on His words. If we let Him – for we can prevent Him, if we choose – He will make the feeblest and filthiest of us into a god or goddess, a dazzling, radiant, immortal creature, pulsating all through with such energy and joy and wisdom and love as we cannot now imagine, a bright stainless mirror which reflects back to God perfectly (though, of course, on a smaller scale) His own boundless power and delight and goodness. The process will be long and in parts very painful, but that is what we are in for. Nothing less. He meant what He said. – C.S. Lewis

Such amazing truths and doctrine. I am so blessed to have been brought up in the gospel to KNOW that these statements are true for EVERY SINGLE PERSON who EVER lived on this Earth and who will ever live here. It is beautiful to recognize where we came from, to recognize the miracle of life. I am so thankful for my Heavenly Father and His plan for us.
