Spiritual Thought: Humility vs. Pride

My Relief Society is the BEST. Another Sunday with multiple pages of notes. I love it!

Based off the talk "Beware of Pride" by Ezra Taft Benson. Read it and love it.

REMEMBER:

  • John 5:30 - remember that you are truly nothing without the Lord. Do His will. Submit yourself to Him.
  • God's plan for us is infinitely better than any plan we could come up with on our own.
  • Don't let the world tell you your worth. Fear God not man. Don't let your self esteem be based on worldly matters.
  • If you are humble you will have higher self esteem because we will accept help and become better. You will change yourself and not be offended. You will focus on the Lord. He will help you feel better. Receive re-direction with love. Be humble and change when needed.
  • Humility = self confidence
  • Don't compare yourself to others. No two people have lived the same life or have been through the same situations. We cannot fairly compare ourselves to anyone and therefore it is completely pointless. It only brings discouragement or negativity. Since it is impossible to fairly compare yourself to anyone, save yourself the heartache and don't. It is simply not worth it!
  • Pride is a "damning sin" - avoid it at all costs.
  • Pray to be humble, to do away with feelings of pride.
  • Become humble by being willing to follow Heavenly Father by submitting our will to His. Accept the things we CANNOT control and choose happiness. Realize that God knows what is best - He knows the best timing. Listen to His guidance. He knows.
  • Remember that God truly loves you and that in every trial there are blessings. Focus on the positive. On what will help bring happiness. All things happen for a reason. All trials and tribulations will eventually lead to happiness. We will be blessed in the end. Have faith in that truth.
  • Work harder to include God in your daily life. Let Him in. Make Him a priority. Unify with God.
  • Be humble = let things go. Forgive. Repent.
